Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the famous American poets. His life was short and sad. When he died in 1849, he was only 40 years old. People took many guesses on his death, but no one knew for sure. Some said he was murdered, some said he drank too much alcohol, but in fact, he drank just a little amount. But he got a disease, little amount of alcohol caused terrible effects. It caused imagination on him, and made him out of control and crazy.
Poe’s life was never easy. Poe was born in 1809 in Boston. When he was two years old, hes father abandoned the family, and soon after that, his mother died. He was sent to Virginia lived with Mr. Frank, who had no child. Mr. Frank moved business to England when Poe was five, and let him attend "Manner House School". In 1820, Poe fell in love with Elmira Roystor who was his neighbor. They wanted to marry, but her father disapproved. Poe went to University of Virginia, and wrote to Elmira a lot, but soon she married with a rich guy. Poe’s heart broke.
Poe started to write poems about lost love, and indulged in gambling. He quit school and left home. "Muddy" who had two children took him in her family. Later on, he married her daughter, Virginia at the time he was 27, and she was 13. Poe made many enemies by criticizing other writers’ works.
In 1845, the poem "the Raven" finally wan him fans, people called him Raven. Virginia died at age 24. It struck at him again. To survive with Muddy, Poe knew he needed to find a job. He thought the best way to make money is to marry a rich woman. He met Elmira, and she was a rich widow that time. So, Poe asked her to marry him. But, things were not always in Poe’s way, one week later, he died.
